A gathering to celebrate Air New Zealand’s connection between Auckland and Buenos Aires
LANZBC members, representatives from the travel industry, exporters of goods and services, and those interested in the wider South American market all enjoyed fine Argentinian malbec and great food at this event at the Generator on Tuesday 25th July. With good news to share, great networking was had between those present.
A direct flight from Auckland to Buenos Aires - up until Dec 2015 it was a long-held dream of those with Latin America on their business and personal radars. 19 months later, the success of this now regular Air New Zealand route is such that the Council chose to celebrate it recently in Auckland.
Three years ago we heard the airline's Chief Strategy, Networks and Alliances Officer Stephen Jones give a memorable account of the analysis and planning that had to come together to allow Air New Zealand to make the huge commitment to a new route. It was therefore great to have Stephen back to speak to us at this event & tell us the key indicators are all positive.
As Stephen explained, the route is profitable, with freight and passenger numbers between Argentina and New Zealand showing significant growth in both directions since the inaugural flight [delete the 2 commas]. Air New Zealand is therefore committed to the route into the future, and is looking to building alliances within South America to progress their reach into this region.
Rene de Monchy from Tourism New Zealand also confirmed the Government’s enthusiasm for the route, and described how they are able to work with companies to help build business networks in Argentina, Brazil and beyond.
